Rate the Song Above You
Okay, so the idea for this topic is simple (and also a ripped-off forum game, but whatever).
Numerically rate the song posted above you, and give a brief reason for your rating. Then put a song (i.e. its name, you can't append an actual song) at the end of your post, and the next person will rate that one.
A few additional guidelines:

A few additional guidelines:
- If the song you post is particularly obscure, it's recommended you suggest where to look for it, or that you give a link.
- No reposting a song you've posted before unless it's been 5 months or more since you last posted it.
- Base your ratings entirely on the song, and try to avoid bias based on the artist or who posted the song.
- Listen to the entire song. Find the most complete version you can and follow it through to the end; some have hidden bursts of noise.
- Don't feel the need to take offense at any ratings! Tastes and listeners are diverse, and so are different takes on the same song.
So off we go. I'll start: "Sticky Thread" by Local Natives.
(Yes, that is a song. Yes, I always start my "Rate the Song..." topics with it. If you don't get the double meaning I suggest thinking about how it relates to a forum. )

Re: Rate the Song Above You
LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED.
7.5/10. It's worth noting that I've rated this song before on a different forum. I didn't actually remember anything about the song besides the name. Not a good sign. Having refreshed my memory of it, I find it to be a fairly pleasant song. The performers are skilled at their various instruments, and the vocals are well-done. The song itself wasn't terribly interesting, though. Not bad enough to get a lower rating, but not quite good enough to get anything higher.
"Red" by Taylor Swift.

Re: Rate the Song Above You
I should probably point out I am a decently good fan of Taylor Swift; however, I didn't really like "Red" very much. It was simply mediocre with nothing special about it. Her voice sounds strained throughout the song, and I found some of the lyrics rather ridiculous. Like most of her songs, the chord progression is incredibly simple, and overused. Some of the lyrics are imaginative, especially the way she associates her feelings with colors; however, she doesn't present the idea in a good way.
Also, being a nitpicker for details, I didn't like how she would talk about her feelings in relation to colors, then switch to something else. An example would be in the song when she says "Missing him was dark grey, all alone", but then she says "Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met." I noticed this inconsistency with the first listen. Stay on one thing, please.
I would have to give it a 1.64 out of 5 (if even that). It was probably my least favorite song on the album.

Re: Rate the Song Above You
2.5/10. Immediately when I heard the repeating piano riff, I expected some sort of effect to come in. Instead, it continued in the same way for a good chunk of the song, with unimaginative chords sprinkled overtop. I was at least mildly impressed when a proper set of sounds coasted in before the 3-minute mark, but the song takes far too long to get there to make the trip worthwhile. A bit too plodding.

Umm... not the worst song I have ever heard, a little repetitive but not too bad I would rate it around a 4 out of 10.

(I judge only on musical merit.)
4/10, alright I guess. The vocals seem to deliberately exaggerate a drawl, and the already-simple tune is more or less lost in the stylistic attempt. Quite repetitive, with not much for an interesting beat, but it's not so bad.

I found this song to be mediocre. I disliked the spacing of
the words, and the melody wasn’t anything special (repetitive). Out of 10 I’d give it a 3.

5/10. I enjoyed the muting of the guitar, but some quality of the breath of the vocals made the song sound at least as dated as it is. There was nothing great about the drums/beat either. The song as a whole has/had potential, but didn't get there - or anywhere near there.

I found it to be decently interesting. I am not a huge fan
of the electronic-ish music sounds, but I thought the singing was nice. I’d
give this probably about a 5/10.

3/10, not the best of what I don't often listen to. The brass instrument(s), which I can only guess is trumpet, is rather choppy, as is the unexciting piano. Also, the song is longer than I generally care to listen to. I do like the percussion though.

7.5/10. Liked the echo-y guitar[?]. The song felt a bit like one long instrumental introduction, but it was still pleasant.

2.5/10. I expected something exceptional by the slightly-hollow intro, which itself was pretty cool, and perhaps the lyrics. The beat wasn't so bad either. It's ruined by the overriding quality of the vocals, which I always find annoying from Jason Mraz, and the saccharine effect of the layering.

6/10. Had to listen to this three four times before I could remember anything about it. It loses points for that. Otherwise...fairly enjoyable. Vocals were well-done; liked the contrast between the two vocalists' voices. Guitar was also good. Not much else to say without listening to it a fifth time.

5/10. It really isn't bad, but especially given the amount of music I've listened to today, I have the feeling that it's something that I won't remember. Somewhat-distorted guitars, but a tad repetitive; vocals more languid at times than I might expect; but still not that memorable.

Re: Rate the Song Above You
I actually found this song catchy in a strange way. While I really
disliked the vocals…strained and off key at many points, and the song is
very depressing, I might actually listen to it again in the future. I’d give it a 4.5/10.

Re: Rate the Song Above You
(When you do listen again, try some of his other work too, it's not nearly as depressing. )
2/10. It took some willpower not to immediately judge on the basis of title, but then I realized that the song was just as verbose and word-cramming. The vocals themselves just sound ordinary, though, and there's nothing at all to recommend them. In the song, the beat changes at least once, and it's jarring, hard not to trip over. The instruments are choppy, but I'm okay with that aspect of things - it seems to be their intention.

Re: Rate the Song Above You
2/10. Peculiar for the gaps in its instruments, I actually don't dislike that aspect of it. But there's not anything to the actual instrumental portion that's very interesting, and the lyrics are predictably banal. I did snicker at one point, but that's about all the reaction I have.

8.5/10 (WOW, OVER A 5?). It runs way more symphonic (and choppy at times) than I normally listen to, but this was the sort of thing that was my mainstay 2-4 years ago. Solid melody, layers with echoes, it works.

5.5/10... I think?
The beat isn't bad, though a bit more hollow and understated than I'm
used to; the other instruments aren't always noticeable, and everything takes a second place to the not-quite-melodic vocals... except when everything blares out at once. It's agreeable though, maybe meriting a bit of a higher rating if/when I listen to it again (perhaps with faster internet).

Re: Rate the Song Above You
9/10. Upbeat and melodic. Wasn't sure if I liked the singer's voice for the first bit of the song, but it soon grew on me. The song seemed rather simple, perhaps because it was acoustic, but it wouldn't have "worked" otherwise. I would definitely listen to this again. (I actually am listening to it again now. :3)

6/10. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed. It was very repetitive which gets under my skin, and a bit bland and generic. I enjoyed the vocalist's voice, which is why I didn't knock my rating down to a 5.
